Stainless Steel Round Bar — Machining Stock & Structural Supply
ZEMSS supplies stainless steel round bar in hot-rolled, cold-drawn, and turned-and-polished conditions from certified mill stock. Available from 6mm diameter up to 300mm, across a wide range of grades from standard austenitic 304 and 316L through to duplex 2205, precipitation hardening 17-4PH, and martensitic 410 for wear-resistant applications.
Each bar is supplied with a mill test report (MTR) confirming grade, heat number, chemical composition, and mechanical properties to ASTM A276 or EN 10088-3. Cut-to-length, rough-turned (turned-and-peeled), and centreless ground bar are available from the same facility, reducing raw material preparation time before CNC machining.

Key Properties
- Machinability — Austenitic grades (304, 316L) machine cleanly with sharp tooling. Work hardening is managed through correct feed/speed selection. 17-4PH in H900 condition is more machinable than annealed; 410 machines well in annealed state.
- Cold-drawn dimensional accuracy — Cold-drawn bar achieves h9 tolerance as standard, significantly tighter than hot-rolled material. Preferred for bar stock where close sliding or running fits are needed without intermediate grinding.
- Centreless ground precision — Centreless ground bar achieves h6–h7 tolerance and Ra ≤ 0.8µm surface finish. Used directly as shaft stock or precision dowel without further machining in many applications.
- High-strength options — 17-4PH in H900 condition achieves UTS ≥ 1,310 MPa and yield strength ≥ 1,170 MPa — comparable to alloy steel, with significantly better corrosion resistance. Enables smaller section sizes in high-load applications.
